With a successful Viewsonic v212 CE 5.0 ROM dump, how can I use it to flash a v212 or even v210?

I used ROMDump_withMFC to dump 1st 64MB of Viewsonic v212 CE Pro Plus 5.0 (Viewsonic says 64MB ROM). Now, the question is how I can use it to flash v212 or even v210? I have not found any update tools from Viewsonic. I did send them an email inquiring about this.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Are you sure Viewsonic V210 has identical hardware? I'm not. Most likely you wilk brick V210 with flashing V212 ROM if you success it.

Without official update tools you can't do much. But try resetting the device holding different buttons and combinations of them. If you are lucky V212 can have update tool in bootloader as my MidasPad have and 900c.

Right, v210 has some different hardware. So, v212 ROM can't be used to flash v210.

I did see CEBuildUpdater.exe (31744 bytes, 1/1/2006) in the permanent storage. Is it useful?

Viewsonic did respond to my inquiry. Let's see if they are willing to provide a tool for ROM flash.

Is it useful? I don't know. Execute it and see what it does. Or view this exe in hex-editor and find any meaningful strings in it.
Have you tried reset with different buttons?

I have 2. One is working and the other seems locked by a deeply dimmed display. Without a code, I can't access any controls on the latter. I'm looking for a way to use the ROM from the working one and flash the other, effectively unlocking the device. I checked CEBuildUpdater using a hex editor, but found no clue. What should I look for?

You shoold look for small executables with some interesting strings inside.

And again, try resetting the unit while holding different buttons.

Because the screen is locked, I have no way to access any controls. I did run CEBuildUpdater.exe on a good v212. Here is the display. I looked for exe, bin, img, and dll and found no interesting stuff. It does use coredll.

Looks like it's a tool that updates something (may be OS) from an ftp server. Give me the exe please. It's interesting.

Here is the photo to show what's inside v212. The CF WiFi card is made by Unex Technology Corp. Model# DRCB-M1. FCC ID: NKRDRCB.

They made two CF slots and inserted Wi-Fi into one of them?

Yeah, that's funny. Why couldn't they have just built it in?

Right. They made 2 CF slots and simply used 1 for OEM CF WiFi. Probably, it's even cheaper for them to do it that way.

all proper bootloaders have a way to do an OS update - you just need to find the way. best if you don't use any update utility launched from OS as that is not foolproof should the update get interrupted somehow. bootloader button combination is better. did viewsonic reply since then?

They replied, but asked me to contact the third party for the software lock. I'm still pushing them to provide an update tool.

Unfortunately, Viewsonic said they do not have ROM update (update or update tool? ambiguous intentionally?).

Fortunately, I made it! Now, the other v212 works normally.
