so i've been poking around the forums and learned that you can connect to the web via the IRDA and a cell phone that'll work with it. But i wonder is it possible to use the irda as a data transfer point between two H/PCs? say you wanted to "beam" info over like contact info or docs or something...can that be done?

Yes. Contacts can be squirted by in pocket outlook on the file menu, most devices can file transfer with an IrOBEX client - some like the Jornada 700 series have it built in already.

With IrOBEX enabled, file transfer can be done in My Handheld PC as well as in third-party file browser programs like Total Commander; however, unlike in Palm OS devices, you have to enable receipt of an IrDA transmission, by selecting a command in the File menu.
