I have a lot of questions on this... First, my system info:

NEC MobilePro 900
Handheld PC 2000
Core System Version 3.0
Firmware Version P530 V6.0
PIC Firmware ID 3.18.7
Bootloader Version 3.4

I have a 64 megabyte CF Card AND a 4 gigabyte CF card. I do NOT have a serial cable. I do NOT have any possible way to hook it up to a host. I CAN put anything onto the CF cards though. How can I upgrade the Bootloader AND the OS without the host/serial connectivity using my bootloader and current OS?

I can't understand it. It has a lot of iffy context, and isn't easily understood by me. I would actually like Cmonex to answer me with the best way to do this.

The first step is to upgrade your bootloader to version 4.1. On Cmonex's site is a link to that....download that, put it on your CF card and install it. Then the next step is to upgrade the OS the same way....

It's abit scary, but I've done it to 2 machines successfully.

I *haven't* gone back to cmonex's site recently, but perhaps that will get you started prior cmonex's schedule coming inline with yours. She may have written a new update kit since I used mine a few years ago.

Did you get the file updatekit_OS2_02_bootl_4_10.zip and read the readme.txt file within it?

You don't need to be connected to a host computer (but I'm assuming that you have a desktop/laptop running to surf the web and get that file). You just need to download and decompress the file above, format your card to FAT16, copy those decompressed files to the card, and then run the update program.

If this isn't helpful enough, post the point of confusion and somebody will try to clarify.

Where did it stop?

From the instructions:

1. format a CF card (size at least 64mb) to FAT16 (xp calls it FAT),
2. use normal format (not quick).
3. you must do this even if the card was already fat16!!!!
4. unzip the files in this updatekit from the COPYTOCFROOT folder to the root of the CF card.
5. if unsure: this means you copy all the files from that folder into the root of the CF card.
so the files will sit in root directly. you don't copy the folder name itself.
6. hardreset the 900c by removing all batteries and AC
7. reinsert battery, put it on AC (mandatory), boot to the (old) OS,
8. then insert the CF card and run update.exe on the CF card.
9. it will take about 6 minutes in total.
10. after the update is successfully done, do a hard reset again.
11. boot into (new) OS, and verify the update was fully done. next steps will help with this.
12. go into control panel, NEC firmware info applet
13. if it says bootloader version 4.10, the bootloader is fully updated, and everything is OK.
14. if it says OS is version 2.02, then the OS is updated too.

Maybe you got a bad download there....

Go here and try the CE.NEt image: http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/update/aggregator.asp?cid=5

Follow instructions exactly....

I'm confused and this may be silly. When you get the white screen, you wait several minutes, and then hard-reset. The unit still works and nothing has changed (i.e., you've checked the firmware and bootloader versions again).

Weird...when trying to update, did you pull the main and backup batteries first and run it after a hard reset, running only off the a/c adapter? Also, before copying the file update files to the CF card, did you perform a fresh format on the card first?

If those don't make any difference, then try another CF card...
