Your gear looks the business, no-success; - I for one would really like a step-by-step on this, with a list of the materials you used. Amazing mod.

my display get kinda grainy film like appearance to it, anyone else have that too?

since simon asked for it:

tools needed:

small eyeglass screwdiver

normal small electronics screwediver

exacto knife

2000 grit wet/dry sand paper and block (for taking out nicks and scratches on the edges)

materials:
3m "professional" automotive tape (green)

household bleach cleaner (for preping the surface; ive read that brake fluid works good too but i didnt try it)

dupli-color "vinyl & fabric" spray paint

i started by following hpcnec.com's guide on disassembily for the nec mp 780.
(skipped keyboard disassembley)

once my mp780 was completely taken apart i prepped the surface with bleach cleaner (making sure to not leave any sticker glue and such)

painted using directions on can. (total process took about 12 hours)

and that is about it.

overall it was fairly easy and the results were/are good no paint flaking off or anything like that yet. let your unit sit for 48 hours after for paint to completely set.

I did my Psion 3mx in "Monaco Blue" metallic... It looks quite good - much better than the peeling rubber paint that Psion used.

I used:

Halfords plastic primer spraypaint
Halfords Monaco blue spraypaint
Halfords clear lacquer spraypaint

500, 800, 1200, 2400 wet and dry paper.

It's *all* in the preparation. Spraying is actually the quick bit.
Oh, and a lot of it is in the waiting for the paint to fully harden, too. Don't be tempted to do things before it's all properly cured!

It starts out as a fun job, but then it gets slightly tedious IMHO, but the results are worth it

They've not come out very well at all - I've just used my wife's ixus camera... Should dig out the D70 with the SB800 flash, but that's overkill for a web snap

The base - you can get a hint of the richness of depth of the colour...

The top. There's a couple of faults in the paint due to me putting the paint on too thick - thin layers, and more of em next time!

And open... You can see where I oversprayed with the primer. The sides need doing too on the next one I do

lol, I need to adjust the gamma on my home PC - to get anywhere near this level of brightness I was boosting curves in photoshop, and it looks a tad overdone now I'm looking at work. Ah, the joys of photo editing!
