Hi,
id like to know if the integrated sim slot in the Smartbook G38 give web surfing feature and if it is some hack to upgrade connection from GPRS to UMTS.

Should be in CE4 section but here we go---

Yes it gives it websurfing feature (and basic phone functions when unit is out of standby) - web is really too slow and don't really use the phone... Web for me is via Wi-fi CF card or BT card to phone (both work well and are really nice in use). However I keep a SIM in the smartbook as an emergency backup just in case.

It can't be upgraded to UMTS (except by using either a UMTS compact flash card or bluetooth to phone).

I have looked long and hard to see if I can find a 3g module with same interface but no luck at all. Don't think such a thing exists.
