NBP hinge repair anyone?

As some of you already know, my NBP has a broken left hinge. Has anyone succeeded in repairing the thing without getting a proper replacement hinge? I'm afraid that if I remove the leather cover, I won't be able to put it back together nicely..

Heh, posted exactly one month ago and still no luck. Pulster from Germany offers hinge repair but that would cost me as much as a replacement unit.

I may have an idea on how to repair the hinge... does anyone know what would be the easiest way of removing the leather?
