| Hi - (my first post!!
Question: Is there a theme or skinning app available for my device (SIMPAD SL4 runninfg CE 4.2 ) like there is for PPC ?
According to the features list of CE 4.2 it has support for skinning.
I imagine apps like Gigabar or WisBar would not work on this type of device.
Any help or thoughts is appreciated!!
cheers

| May I humbly ask where did you get ce 4.2 from?
And to answer your question: I dont think that you can skin the GUI. Just be content with how it looks. |

| Go into the news section of this forum and the CE 4.2 thread is in there.
CE4 can be skinned native, but it has to be done by the OEM.
Wisbar may well work under CE4 with the right DLL files. |

| Well actually, I am waiting for the Simpad to arrive and then I will be sending it off to Mullengers for the upgrade.
Shame to waste the svga 800 x 600 screen with such a dull gui.....
Anyway, thanks for your responses!! Edited by dobby1963 2005-06-17 4:08 PM

| You may be able to ask Mullenger to include the more XP like UI in the image - you can do but ask. |

| Might I ask why is ce.net 4.2 worth 70 pounds+shipping for you, when the simpad itself does not worth much more than 140 ponds.. and you can get ce.net 4.1 free of charge.
No offense, I'm just curious.
By the way, I dont think it would do much good to the overall system performance to have the GUI skinned, the device is not that powerful. |

| Here are 8 from the top of my head - WPA
- .net CF
- Broader natively compiled apps
- Broader nativly compiled drivers
- Public/Private & Root Class Certificates
- MSIE 6.0
- Working Windows Messenger
- Windows Media 9
Whether it's worth the cash, thats up to you.
NightLord, you also just made the forums 12000th post. |

yeah it sounds cool, if only that guy would include java and flashplayer too (they're included in earlier versions - ok, java (jeode ) might be explained why it has been left out )
wow, 12000th post... congrats |

| The Simpad is primarily a web surfing device. That is what Seimens marketing blurb touts it as. From my research it appears that the upgrade to 4.2 will enable the device to make use of the newer website technologies.
Besides - I know of no other similar device that has a 800 x 600 screen in this kind of form factor.
I think it's worth it! but that's just my opinion!!!!
cheers

| hi, i've got a question about the SL4: does it have a fully functional USB port?
I've read the PPC Magazine review about the simpad, and over there it said that it had the port but it lacked the appropiate software (drivers i think ). I need to know if it has a fully functional USB so you could peripherials (a keyboard mainly ). If so, i might consider getting one |

but you can get bluetooth for sure & bluetooth keyboard: maybe. |

| Thanks a lot Cmonex. i'd like to have one, but without the keyboard it's almost useless to me. |

| Takwu, what you get up to in your own time is entirly your own business
Is there actually a working - not hacked Flash redist for 4.2? I didn't think there was a legit one.
4.2 also comes with WinScript 5.6 (JS and VBS ) and the XML implimentation. 4.1 uses the 5.5 release which comes with CE3 and 4.0. |
