T means tone dialing
the AT command in a dial instruction means the following set means

AT -> AT command prefix (all commands have it)
D -> dial
T -> tone

so by typing ATDT you're sending an AT tone dial command.

i think u can remove it by using pulse dialing, but a "P" will appear instead.

Hope this helps

Mmm, even though HPC2k devices do not put the "T" in the number they show you, they do send it to the modem. is just a "user-friendly" change.

If you wanna know more, there are some pages with the AT command set.

Hope this helps

well, i already said that (that they always send the AT command), no news to me, as i experimented a lot with init strings for mobile phones for gprs.
anyway, it's really an userfriendly change, it confused me so much when i saw the T on an older device..

I recently purchased a Jornada 680e. I bought a Compaq Compactflash modem for it. When I set up the internet and dial in, I get a dial tone, squealing, authenticating (almost had it) and then............. "remote networking disconnected". I have tried every access number that PeoplePC has for my area but keep getting the same notice. Can anyone help?

Thanks
