Good questions. Will give it shot tomorrow and see if it does anything at all when connected to my desktop. Wonder if I need to install AS 4.5 since it is a CE6 device....well, will try with 3.8 first.

Well I gave it shot this morning...but it was like everything else in my life, not meant to be. Desktop doesn't recognize the attached USB device. Since it never gets far enough into the operating system to make an Activesync connection, no way I can use CERegEdit. It is currently in limboland...forever I'm afraid. Unless I can get a rom flash for it someday.

Here is how far it gets into the boot process before locking up....

There's no way to help in this situation without using JTAG (I'm not sure reflashing would erase the contents of a flash partition with registry, furthermore, I suspect TinyBook manufacturer providing any support on the ROM file format). The task would be to dismount the flash partition with registry, delete .hv's and reboot.

By the way, aren't you going to sell it?

I refuse to sell it! Arrrgh! I thought about Jtagging, but have no experience in doing that....guess I could give it a try and see what happens...if I could figure out the contact points on the motherboard to establish a serial connection that is.

Rich, when you figure out how to JTAG it, please write up a tutorial!

Are you yet another owner of bricked one?

Also, Rich, there is a big possibility that you will find a 20-hole connector. That is JTAG one.

Any generic 9V DC adapter should work fine as long as it has at least 800mA output....

I believe there are many 9V adapters for PC external speakers and other old analog devices;
but what about the polarity, what does the Tinybook need?

Also, ...might you get into your project of JTAGging the Tinybook?
And, if you succeed, would you be able then to extract/cook a ROM image for it?
Then you might generate a skeleton how-to manual to do it on other netbooks
Halloween is coming, let's revive those dead netbooks

The more I got into Jtagging, the more I realized it was beyond my skill level.

As far as the adapter, it is center tip +

Just like about every other adapter out there. Mine will actually run on a 300mA a/c adapter, but that isn't enough to charge the LION battery at the same time....

Still no progress on finding the right combo of files to flash my T706. I couldn't believe it when I saw one sell used on eBay today for well over $100. They are built well, and fast too.

If you ever wanted to see the insides of one, or need a users manual, go here and enter XAJ for the guarantee code and T706 for the product code:

http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid/

Other info I've discovered: The T706 is also sold under another name, the PC-706 by Matsunichi. Might be I will find a flash for it yet. Check out the pics at their website under the products area here:

Hopefully you can get the recovery files from them. I'd love to try linux on this device (since they have ce6 or linux listed). Either way if they cough either of them up, it would be great!

Cheers.

Rich, those first two links aren't accessible by us common folks. I'm getting a "you are not authorized" error page from both. (And no downloads are available for the netbook on the site of the third link, either of manuals or of ROM images.)
