Bought one off ebay for <$120 and received it today. For my application, I need to get the OS upgraded to at least CE4 and get wifi working.

I'm hoping someone can tell me where to get a CE4/4.1 image as well as a procedure for upgrading the ROM from a CompactFlash card (via pcmcia-cf adapter.) I've seen the procedure linked here: http://www.thomas.miglinci.name/simpad/ar01s04.html but it's geared entirely toward using a serial cable, etc. and I'd prefer not to mess w/that.

Thanks in advance!

Donnie

sorry but you'll definitely need the serial cable.

Most agreed. After all, flashing the ROM is not something you want need to do everyday.

I've seen posts on other forums from people who said they've done this. (Successfully flashed the ROM from a CF card.) I'm surprised that no one here knows of this.

Hi,

You can mess around with the updateclient and get it to flash from CF card, but it is not very straight forwards and doesn´t always work, leaving a half flashed SIMpad.

The serial cable and "serload.exe" program is the most reliable method and will pretty much never fail.

Best regards
Simon
