Please excuse me if this has already been covered somewhere...

I'm still awaiting the delivery of my HPC.

I'm planing a 2,600 mile hike on the Pacific Crest trail next year and am wondering if there is any GPS Mapping software that will run on my 680e. I know there's a lot available for the Pocket PC but can't seem to find anything specifically for the HPC. Can anyone recomend something for me?

Woe

Search the board for GPS, this has been covered in great detail elsewhere.

I plan to purchase Holux GM 270 CF compact flash GPS receiver as the HCL says it compatible with WinCE 2.11. Can I use it with Garmap (http://www.catnet.ne.jp/fukuda/garmap/e_garmap.html) mapping software?

PocketMV (Pocket Map Viewer) works on all HPCs.
This software use the standard Mapsource maps used by GARMIN GPS and other companies. You can compiled a Mapsource map and use it with PocketMV then you can use very detailed and actualized maps.

I nabbed Garmap and installed it. It looks runs on my 6651 and looks OK but without any maps I can't evaluate it. Does anyone have any Garmap files they wish to share? Any location will do, americas, asia, the route to your outhouse :wacko

Better yet, can I download (free) other format maps and use them with Garmap?

(my scanner is fooked so I can't make maps)

You can use screencaps from maps.google.com. Gives you a choice of street maps or satelite photos. Depending on where you plan to use it, it's actually an excellent jaw-dropper that impresses the heck out of friends and bystanders.

Try it in New York on a sunny day using zoomed-in-to-the-max satelite maps and some people think they're seeing LIVE SATELITE TRACKING. Which is true, up to a point. <grin>
