What are some of the best text editing applications for HPC2000. I just need something like notepad or exactly like notepad with word wrap and one font and nothing else. Something really simple. Normally I wouldn't have to ask, but mscdex's site is still offline.

PHM Notepad. Note that it has some document size limit.

Never mind. I found a great one. Does anyone know about this? It only says up to CE 2.11, but it works well with HPC2000.

SCW Notepad

Way to go Master! That's the way it is with a lot of these programs. Many of them were written before the next version of the OS was released, so they had no idea that they would be compatible with future versions. I have found programs that say they are compatible with CE 2.0, only to find they are compatible with CE3, 4, 5, 6...etc.

I had never heard of that one you found...but seems like a nice one to add to the library for those who need a MIPS text editor and don't have one included on their machines....

I'm familiar with Starlight Computer Wizardry's Notepad for CE. It does require mfcce20.dll or mfcce211.dll (depending which MIPS version you use), which are not natively on any H/PC 2000 device. Tillanosoft's Pocket Notepad is another similar application, and it doesn't require any DLLs on an H/PC. Here's the MIPS version you need (which doesn't seem to exist anywhere on the Web any more, including even the Tillanosoft site):

The cab file for Tillanosoft Pocket Notepad didn't work when I moved it to my MP790 and double-clicked it. It said that it was not a valid CE Services installation file. That's weird, because it was designed for MIPS and it should have worked on HPC2000.

Download MSCEINF to your desktop and open the cab file with that. There are two files within it, one is the pnotepad.exe file and the other is an html document with help instructions.

Oh, thanks. I did decide to use the Tillanosoft one because it is a MUCH smaller app without the dll which was over 500 KB!
