| I found that there's a windowed mode for Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer in my Smartbook G138 with 4.2.
To enter windowed mode, simply press F11 like you do in PC Windows. If someone happens to have a Smartbook too, hold Fn and press F9 to get F11. For Windows Explorer (or My Computer ), the windowed mode is full featured; the window is moveable, sizeable, minimizable and maximizable. Internet Explorer 6 is not maximizeable.
I am attaching a screenshot with three windows; hope it's not too messy. From bottom to top focus:
- an IE in the usual full screen mode (showing Pocket PC Magazine )
- My Computer in windowed mode restored (or non-maximized )
- another IE in windowed mode (showing HPC Factor )
Note how the last one shows the page title in the titlebar!
If you have 4.1, I think it's not there. I flashed my Smartbook to 4.1 briefly last night, and F11 didn't work. However, be my guest. If you have 4.2 but don't have F# keys, I guess you need an external keyboard, or something like Remote Display Control (which I tried and worked too ).
For everyone else... well I hope this gives you some kicks Edited by takwu 2005-06-29 4:47 AM

| That is cool Takwu. I can have multiple windows on my 900C as well, but unfortunately they would be the size of a postage stamp...not worth much. On occasion though when surfing, I've had multiple windows open up and they are pretty easy to navigate by tapping on the menu bar to select the window I want to view...though for me I always set maximized view since I have so little space available...

| so that was what you meant on your hpcnec page wasn't it? i just couldn't understand the note about IE 6 being able to open multiple windows (as hpc2000 can do it too - of course not in windowed mode ). hmmm it must be cool |

| Yeah, that is what I meant...duh. You mean everyone who reads what I write can't read my mind automatically? They don't always know what I mean? Oh.....
Still, even a window that opens is so small I end up maximizing it automatically, and some windows don't have that options at all, they just open up in a window that doesn't have resizing capability. I don't like those.

| Rich,
So do you have the F11 key on a MP? Or did you use an external keyboard...
Another finding. I tried drag and drop between Windows Explorer windows. It works. Surely you can do it the "hard" way - drag file to task bar, wait for the window switch, and THEN drop it. But with windowed mode, it's much better.
- first open destination folder
- then open source folder
- switch to windowed mode, and move/resize it so you can see destination folder in the background
- just drag a file and drop into destination (hold shift to move instead of copy )
Now I just wish there was the tile windows feature |

| I obviously have no idea what I am talking about. I tried every way possible to open several windows simultaneously. I remember doing it on my 900C early release before upgrading the OS, but not now.
I can only have multiple open full screen windows. I tried the USB keyboard route, and no go. As a matter of fact, I found that using an external keyboard I don't have either function key recognition or repeat key capability (where you hold down the key and the character keeps on going and going and going... ). Cursor keys work fine as does the numeric keypad and all standard characters.
Now I'm perplexed. |

| Hmm, interesting. Did you try Remote Display Control?
I would be surprised if it cannot be done on the 900C... |

| try the "CIC-On screen keyboard" from the simpad rom, it can be found in Henri's page, it's got an option fo show function keys, maybe that could help In the J720, F11 would do nothing, but there's a sign that F keys effectively work: pressing F5 reloads the page. soo maybe you can try
Hope this helps |

| Okay, I did it too using the JotKbd application on Henri's site. Still kinda tiny to work with though on a HVGA machine.
