Just checking to make sure - battery compatibility

I am buying a Hitachi HPW-200EC with a dead battery and I know the battery in it is 7.2 V, 1400 mAh. This is the same as the battery I took out of my LG Phenom, and the two products are identical hardwarewise for the most part. However, the batteries do have different model codes, but they are the same shape and power. But still, would the Phenom battery work in the HPW? Does the computer check the battery or does it just accept any current going through as right?
