If you need a SD slot, why not just get a PCMCIA reader

Or am I missing something?

For the most part, that's what I asked of someone else aboard the oesf forum. But I also realised that there *is* a *difference* between adding a pcmcia reader (Read: taking up a slot) vs adding an *ADDITIONAL* SD slot into your HPC.

no, you are not missing something, you are just missing the *ADDITIONAL* SD slot in a HPC.

Yes, I am well aware of that, I did visualise ;-).

It is just that it seems like an awfully long way to go, using a potentially destructive process to include a smaller footprint yet smaller yield and slower storage technology by clamping it into the system bus.

Are the SDIO benefits really worth doing it? In your opinion obviously.
As to a driver, we can probably pinch one from Platform Builder, if one is needed at all.

i won't think SDIO would be a real plus to the H/PCs. any peripherial available in SDIO format has a CF equivalent or counterpart, and CF peripherials are WAAAAy cheaper than SDIO ones. so in that point you're right C:Amie.

Anyway it would be a cool mod.
