I just became the proud owner of a NEC MobilePro 790. The only problem with it is a flat battery. The one I origionally got with it will charge to a max of 20%, it won't even turn on the device when not connected to the AC, and (as a test) will only drive a 40mm fan for a grand total of 30 seconds. I got a second battery that only charges to 60%, and will last about 30 seconds when not connected to the AC.

So, can I safely assume I have two VERY dead batteries?

Anyways, searching for a new one, I ran into some interesting things.

First, this site, selling the battery at the expected over-priced-price of $95.95 (but I save a whole $10 off the list price! Hot Dog!)
http://www.amatteroffax.com/itempagey_INVID_439831_d_LION-BATT-MOBILEPRO-790-ONLY.htm

These guys are selling one for a more reasonable $70. http://www.yourmobiledesk.com/products/proddetail.cfm?prodID=3636&catID=99&subcatID=844&sscatID=na&mfrID=na

But then I ran into this link: http://store.l-f-l.com/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?pg=prod&ref=MC-BA14A
Brand new, with a 1-year warrenty, for $40? I just might buy two...

Anyone have experience with these guys? Seems almost too good to be true.
Much thanks to all who respond.

I've not, wrong country.

I did want to say, what a superb find! There's a news post in that, with Brain_Recall's name on it!
If you do order with them, let me know how you get on.

They have 620LX, 660LX, 680, 690, 710, 720, 728 and 820 hp batteries as well!

Thanks for letting everyone know.

Heh, wow, didn't expect that much excitement over a battery.

Anyways, a quick search on ResellerRatings shows a not-so-great record.
http://www.resellerratings.com/seller3778.html

I've sent off an email to them asking if them essentially if it is just some knock-off. If I get a reasonably fast response, I may give them a whirl.

I guess I'll be your guinea pig.

I forgot normal people don't read the URLs unless they're typing... I mean... *even* when they're typing it.

Fortunately I'm a geek, hehehe.

There's a chap on Ebay selling batteries for the NEC 780/790 at 9.99 a pop, plus shipping. Shipping to the UK is horribly expensive through him though

Well, after a long break from the boards, I wanted to give an update.

I finally bought the battery for my NEC MobliePro 790. The battery itself is repo (reproduction, orgional design, just new). It's identical to the origional, except the case is black instead of the dark grey of the stock battery (beign nit-picky, the battery is just slighty larger to make it more snug in the 790, and the Laptopsforless.com sticker on the bottom isn't the best). On a full charge I get well over 4 hours of playing MP3's with the screen brightness at max.

Speaking of charging, I discovered why my other batteries were dead. Here, the recharging circuit in my 790 is defunct. I managed to pick up another 790 from my friend (with a cracked case and non-working LCD) and switched the boards. Kinda a pain pulling the 790 apart; not quite as graceful as the Jornada 680. (If anyone wants some tips on disassembly on the 790, shoot me an email.)

Anyways, replaced the board, switched the Flash/ROM card to keep my programs, and viola! Now I have one brand new battery and two fairly good ones.

Overall: Great battery at a decent price.

Glad that you figured that out. I take it that you are talented at pulling these things apart? Anyways, what about the nerds? lol

--------------------------------------------------
My definitions:
Nerd = Smart dude
Geek = Still smart, kinda strange - into things other than computers
Dork = The kid who picks his nose in class

lol
