Hi,
I purchased a mobilepro 790 on ebay and just received it.
When I power up the unit a white screen appears for about 10 seconds and then the normal screen shows up and slowly the icons show up.
I tried reseting but this still happens. Is this normal ? I don't remember seeing this white screen with the 780. Thanks for any help.
Regards.

When you tap Start > suspend and then power back up again does it do this?
Or is it only on a soft reset?

Not normal...but evidently not critical either. Did you perform a hard reset on the device and see if it still did it?

Could be one of two problems, there's a problem with the power supply circuitry / controller and when you turn it on it's some how over-rating the backlight - you should be able to see a heavily saturated image if you look colsely,

Or, it's the lcd controler which is turning all of the pixels in the matrix on until it 'warms up'

Hi again,
I've noticed that when I remove my Sandisk 512Mb compactflash card and power up the mobilepro, I don't get the white screen anymore...everything works great, As soon as I insert the compactflash card and power up again, the white screen is back

any idea what causes this to happen ?

Thanks !

Sounds like you narrowed it down to the power supply circuitry. It does it on AC as well?

I'd be concerned that this isn't doing damage to your CF hardware. The screen issue could be indicative of a power surge . Though the reasons for that surge are not clear.

Have a look down the CF slot, check that the pins all look healthy, and aren't bent. The sets on the outer edged and the very middle set should stick out further than the others. These are the power and control pins.

Probably just drawing too much current at one time...or the device is mounting the card before refreshing the screen...sounds to me like you have the perfect solution...don't keep the card in the machine when booting!

I checked and all the pins look good...I guess I'll have to do like Rich said "don't keep the card in the machine when booting !"

Thanks
