I know the Compaq Aero 2130 I got has a vibrating alarm, I had read it in the specs and I think it went off on the first startup.

However, I set an appointment in Calendar and when the alarm went off it didn't vibrate, I looked everywhere I can think and don't see any option to turn on the vibrating alarm.

How do you set an alarm to vibrate?

Thanks

There's a "Vibrate" setting for the World Clock alarm (under Start -> Settings -> World Clock), but I don't know if it affects the Calendar alarms. Can't hurt to try it, though.

I looked everywhere I could in the World Clock Settings and still don't see any Vibrate option, mine has CE 2.11 if that matters. Where exactly is the setting? What tab of the World Clock dialog and what sub dialog, if any?

Thanks

It's in the Alarms tab.

I've looked at all the tabs, is it supposed to be DIRECTLY on the Alarms tab, or do I need to go to some other dialog once I'm on the Alarms tab to see this setting?

If it's supposed to be right on the Alarms tab, why isn't it? Again mine has CE 2.11 if that matters.

You have to tap the "Options" button on the right-hand side of the alarm you're setting.

I should have mentioned I checked that too, the only settings there are:
-Sound
-Repeat the sound
-Message
-Flashing light

So what am I doing wrong?

I guess it's just not there as a setting then. There were several ROM versions for the each model in the 2100 series. You might be able to do it by adding a registry value, but I'm not sure where those are in the registry of that device.

Is there perhaps an update Compaq released to add this feature? Much like the Nino 300 needs 2 updates just to work as it should out of the box.

Is the sound checkbox deselected when you're trying this?

They are all checked. I noticed another problem today, it refuses to stay off if a CF card is loaded.

Thanks

Should've clarified--have you tried setting the alarm with the 'Sound' checkbox unchecked?

I think that was a bug in one of the earlier ROM versions. A previous 2180 I had did this. What's the first thing you see on the screen when you soft reset - is it a set of color bars, or a short text about the memory?

After a reset I immediately see:
-----------------
DVT
PAR V1.12

Main Memory
16M Bytes
-----------------

After that I see 4 color bands. I assume there's no fix for this? What did people do back in the day? Did Compaq exchange/repair them? It's not like this is an acceptable problem. So even 2180's can have this bug? The worst part is I wanted to put a CF card just to block the slot as it's missing the blank dummy card.

As I said, Compaq rolled out several ROM versions even for the 2180 - in some cases to fix bugs like this. My CE 2.11 2180 only shows the memory text, not the color bars, and doesn't have this issue, but the previous one I had showed the color bars only and did have the issue. To be honest, I'm not certain whether my current CE 2.11 2180 supports vibration either - I may be thinking of another 2180 I have with a Pocket PC 2000 ROM.
