Any tips for correct synch after backup restore?

I've been using a J720 for about four years and backup the handheld every week or so. When I synch to my desktop after a restore there are always thousands of appointments, tasks, etc. that are queued to be synched.

Usually the handheld thinks that it has the most recent data right after a restore and I end up losing a bunch of data from the desktop. The biggest problem is when I lose HPC Notes and ListPro data that weren't on the handheld at the last backup but have been on the desktop.

Does this happen to anyone else? Is there something I should be doing to make sure this doesn't continue to happen? Thanks for the help!
