Has anybody seen one of these? I just picked one up secondhand, it has a large SCSI connector protruding form the back, which is PART of the motherboard of the unit. I think it's nifty, but of no use to myself. Pics are attached.

It looks suspicously like a micro hard drive connector to me. Are you sure that this is a natural part of the motherboard?

Maybe you should try opening it to confirm if it's part of the mobo or an attached daughterboard

The Mobilon was NECs first entry into subnotebook computers...old 486 machines that were popular in Korea. I used to own one years back, and you still see them on eBay now and then, but I don't remember any connector like that on mine. Wonder if it is a SCSI connector...has the right number of pins...50.

Give us a picture of the front of the machine (keyboard/screen view)

Rich

I count 100 solder pins, so if they are doubled up then 50 is correct.
This board is DEFINITLY attached, and it seems it's traces are in the middle layer to the board, as both sides have copper clad with the exception of a few 'ground holes' used to gain access to the middle plane.

Whoa...that doesn't look anything like my old Mobio...that looks like a Sharp Mobilon HC 4600. Oh crap, I just realized my mistake...I read it correctly and and interpreted it wrongly.

Anyway, my old Mobio was the size of of a MP780 more or less, ran Win95 and had a 486 cpu.

I confused the names...and for those of you who read my previous post and said to yourselves, "Man, Rich is really stupid sometimes", well...I already know it.

Rich

p.s. I'm changing my guess now after looking at the new pictures. I'm betting it was some specialized mod to connect with some type of test equipment or robotic control.

Rich, I feel I need to just reinforce this in your mind...

It's a Sharp

Is it the same piece of silicone?
My best guess is that this is some sort of diagnostic or monitoring device - or a one-off geek Frankenstein experiment.

Like I said in the title, I believe it's a development unit. It sure is nifty!! I do plan on selling it, via Ebay. Any collectors?
