It's a knock-off of the Pepper Pad, running XP Embedded: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221196995838?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Anyone know about this? Would it run CE-compatible software?

If it runs XP embedded, it will run (some) Windows-compatible software, but not Windows CE compatible.

Does XP Embedded support ActiveSync (server side)? (Or Outlook?)

Yes to both. At least they did on my thin clients that used XPE. Nice device....I think I'd like it.

There was one called the pepperpad, 2, &3 , they had linux cant remember but one of them had a arm proc instead of the geode.

Made by a company named Hanbit & a few others got em and rebaged them...

I use to look at them from time to time in auction, but as with anything i like, they didn't get with in a price range i was willing to pay until they were simply to out of date, & something else comes along.

An interesting device. It functions like my Compal JAX10 to some extent except mine runs standard XP or adapted Linux.

It went for $21.50. I had bid twenty bucks for it but got outbid. I wasn't willing to bid more. Too many bad reviews...especially about the 3-4 minutes boot time and battery life of less than an hour...still it sure looks cool.

Where did you find a review, Rich? All I could find was a youtube video that had no sound.

I think it is one of those "either you love it or hate it" type things...

BTW, I notice that today, the seller now has 3 others up for auction...all starting at $10 plus $12 shipping.

Hmmm, wonder if it is for real, or if it is a scam. I notice that the last sales from this seller were around 2011. Yet in the past month he has about 20 purchases for totals of several hundreds of dollars....

Makes me nervous when I see an eBayer who has been dormant for a couple of years suddenly come to life buying things left and right within a few weeks of each other, and then suddenly selling things as well towards the end of a month...

Maybe I was lucky that I didn't win!

Okay, I think I have to eat crow. I've been in contact with the seller, guy named Dan. He seems up and up. Says he has 24 of these devices that he obtained. He has auctioned off 4 of them in the last few weeks, is able to provide fresh pictures of everything. Now he is selling a lot of four of them, slightly different this time, not with XPE, but looking for Linux. Check out the auction:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Handheld-COLOR-Computers-with-TOUCH-SCREEN-Lot-of-4-units-/221201829152?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item3380a80d20

It would be cool to get one and flash the AMD 50x15 rom to it and use that disk image to make it a CE5 device, since they both use GEODE GX processors which all use the same video drivers and such and are built into the cpu.

Interesting that one of the PepperPad reviews indicated that its a device that gets the inner geek juices flowing... and then after a period of hands-on work, the love cools off. I resemble that comment.
