I'm really tempted to try the $99 Snowy Android netbook I see at lightinthebox.com - but, alas, would it die after a few hours, a month, a few months? I wonder what percentage of these cheap Chinese netbooks do NOT dump their OS install?

It will be fine as long as you don't mind Android. You might consider contacting the seller and see if the manufacturer has firmware in case it needs to be reflashed.

I'll do that, thanks. I don't expect a clear/honest answer from the seller though.

I had an old Wabook Sky, 10.1 CE6 netbook...about identical to the one you are looking at, though different cpu and such...I really liked it, but got fed up with only IE6 on it...never able to make Opera Mini work on it.

I think you'd have a better browsing experience with the Android version of it...and faster too. Price can't be beat...that's for sure.

There is Opera Mobile 9.71 OEM made for PNAs, works like a desktop one. Interested?

Cannot find that version of opera right now. It has version number 9.5 and is found on some PNAs, try searching for it yourself.

Opera 10 for devices (for CE): https://mega.co.nz/#!LJZSyKBA

Another browser: http://www.zetakey.com/download.php - supports CE5, CE6, CE7 and WM.

Those links require entering a key code to download. (And I trust that that site is not a stealth attempt by Megaupload to return to operation while under seizure by US authorities.)

As for ZetaKey, that's old news:

You can get WM-versions only from there.

Zetakey doesn't look like it will work out on my CE6 netbook. Both CE6 versions at first did open up, though I lost the mouse arrow (perhaps they wanted me to purchase the software to enable full functionality?)...after several more tries things got even worse: the netbook showed low memory and Zetakey was shut down. Bummer!

By the way, the low available memory on my CE6 Smartbook has been one of its major shortcomings. Still I trudge along, as I am still finding new uses for this thingy.
