So I have this Memorex DVD player for my TV in the bedroom. And it died...
Well, kind of. It will still plays fine, but the tray will not slide in and out. The little motor mechanism internally died. Kaput. And there are no cheap repair parts. I could replace the entire DVD player parts for $40...which is ridiculous as you can buy a new DVD player for $30.
The solution...manually pull the tray out and push it in.
I decided it needed a handle however...so I drilled a small hole, used a thumb screw from a desktop computer case and threaded it into the hole I drilled in the plastic. I even epoxied it for reassurance.
Ugly as hell perhaps, but it works great now. And didn't cost me a thing in repairs!
p.s. All those little rough edges along the top of the tray are where I wedged a knife into the thing to force open the door since it wouldn't open electronically. I did that for a week before I opened the thing up, disconnected the drive door mechanism and made my mod.
