| I cannot get it.
HDD works like it fails - it rattles sometimes and once it was succeeded by a total system hang with HDD led shining. It is a bit improbable though - this HDD is relatively fresh.
The only PC components that are left unchanged begininng from first crashes are CPU and mobo. Can motherboard cause malfunction of an HDD? |

| Potentially, yes. The controller can upset it, voltages be wrong. What did the diagnostic utility say? |

I am now trying fallback to IDE mode from RAID as a last resort.

Well, how much is this potential verified by statistics? Of course I know that mobo can break HDD. |

| It's unlikely, I've only encountered out once.
Try using http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/.
The sector relocation figure indicates problems if it stands up to scrutiny through sea tools |

1 sector? It is not pefect but fine.
Seatools is mostly useless I guess, all short tests were passed. |

| Sea tools is the one that decides whether you can rma it. So subjectively is the most useful. If it is passing out then perhaps we are dealing with a higher issue. is rst reporting any problems!? |

| Switching to IDE didn't help, another freeze happened.
I am now trying switching to off-southbridge SATA controller as a VERY last resort. I think that I will replace awesome X38 mobo after that.

| Never used it. Does it provide diagnostics?
The very very last resort will be replacing 6950 back with 7600. After I switched to off-bridge SATA I got another dead hang in half an hour, I am running fine for some hours already after switch of VGA.
All dataz are copied to another HDD so I am loosing nothing.

| It has some SMART awareness for the intel controller, limited, but if the intel driver side it picking up an issue, it should tell you live in Windows that the disk is falling over with a tray notification.
How is the up time? |

| Two days if omit the standby. God dammit, I would be much more fine with replacement of HDD than of HD6950.
RST was running until I activated IDE instead of AHCI, not a single popup. |

| What about your PSU, have you got a PSU tests? A failing PSU in my experiences exemplifies the root of all evil in PC troubleshooting. |

| I trashed my PSU at the first page.
I am using CM520 since. Of course it may fail as well.
I might build a small electrometer from my Atmega, I have a plenty of segment displays for that.
With 7600GS everything is fine again. But dead hangs did not happen during high load. |

| That was 6 blinking pages ago. Don't you know that the average moderator can only handle a max of 2 pages before needing to ban someone?
What are the thermals like? |
