| It looks like I have to bite a bullet and get another arm powered unit to complement my Casio PPC for a specific purpose.
So, are there any arm units with 640x480 or larger screens in hpc form factor? Besides the Sig 3. I have no interest in the hacking needed for that unit. It looks like I need to run .net stuff as well.
I'd consider a slight size/weight increase but not too much. Nothing larger than a 6651. Is the MP900 a contender?
How about .net CE arm tablets? Anything come to mind? Mind you, price is ultra important to me. The less the better.
If all else fails I'll make do with another arm PPC. Better yet, let someone write an emulator to run arm stuff on mips.

| Lol, a little specific there eh?
The MP900 isn't a contender, it's 640x240. That's all the useless information I have to bring to the table |

| For arm in hpc form factor, ie clamshell format, the Psion Netbook Pro is the latest (and last? ) with the largest screen that I know and runs on Intel XScale PXA2255 400Mhz
Quote ... daylight-readable TFT SVGA 800 x 600 colour touch display ... I think its 9.4" or something. Can someone confirm?
For tablet, there is the Siemens SIMpad SL4 I just got from the latest batch on ze Bay. It has a 8.4" TFT screen, 800X600. |

| my siemens sl4 can run ce.net 4.1 (4.2 for an arm and a leg ) and has a 800x600 display but no keyboard... here is a pic for compairisons sake:

| TY gents.
I'll check out units mentioned and go from there. Yep, I'm pretty specific on my needs. I want something small and light but readable for a cockpit. It must be touch screen as IMO they are easier to use in flight. I want to run PocketFMS and GPSDash, both limited to arms. I considered Ozi as it runs on mips but for $60 Pocketfms seems so slick. BTW, if anyone uses Pocketfms chime in.
Ideally whatever I get can be strapped to my leg instead of mounting it. Maybe I'll use my Amity tablet if I really have to, but I'd prefer gear with no moving parts. |

| I read an ebay ad and it said the simpad is only 4 bit color ? 16 colors? It also said it's 256 grey scale.
Can someone confirm the color depth for me please? It's a beautiful machine but 16 colors (even 256) is too little for my needs.

| Go on then, where can I get a G138 from for reasonable money?
The Samsung Nexio XP30 (updated S160) has a 5" 800x480 screen which is beautiful, has a touchscreen and supports USB keyboards. If you want easy viewing of data, the screen's pitch might be too small as the dot pitch is fairly small - 800 pixels in 11cm, or put another way: 7 pixels per mm.

Its 16bit alright. But it only has one PCCard slot, and no CF slot. The other slot is a Smartcard reader ... grrr what on earth was Siemens thinking?? |

| Seimens was thinking coporate security. No cf card = no downloading corporate files. Something tells me there's no built in wifi or USB hosting either.
Oh well, a second arm ppc won't be so bad. in a cockpit. I can strap two in the place of one tablet and run GPSdash on one and PocketFMS on the other. It's the itty bitty ppc screens that I really dislike.
Next question. Can I split the serial signal from a gps and feed two ppcs? Or do I need a gps for each ppc. Would two gpses in close proximity interfere with each other? |

Well it's 299 pounds on eBay UK. Rather that's reasonable is for you to decide And I believe that is in general cheaper than a Nexio S160/XP30.
Altho they only ship and provide warranty within UK, according to the eBay listing, apparently ArchiMark has convinced them to ship it to the US, without the power adapter:

I think it's a viable solution for wally, considering the alternatives... |

| The G138 certainly looks decent spec wise, but, it only has a slot for gprs or cdma expansion? No cf cards or gps cards supported? Maybe I missed something in the specs.

So, I'll look into the samsung but IIRC the screen is pretty small and my eyes aren't getting any better. Ironic, with all the shapes and sizes made over the years you'd think I could easily find a machine.
An arm emulator is looking better all the time If they can port 98 then how hard is it to emulate a cpu running the same OS? |

| wally,
The G138 has built-in GPRS modem, but the UK one is only dual-band for Europe (so cannot be used in N.America).
It also has one CF type II slot, which should be good for many other modems/network adapters. |

I think you may want a transflective screen for use in the cockpit of an aeroplane, and the only transflective screens I know of are on pencentra's, which are not StrongArm.
Look at a site called J&K Sales: http://www.jksalesinc.com/catalog/
They sell Fujitsu LT-P's, a windows PC. I have a LT-P 600 and there are flight navigation programs made specifically for this unit. I know it is not what you are looking for, but may be worth a look all the same.
