| Does any such animal exist?
If not, it may be a good idea to start one. Drivers for various peripherals, specially obscure and/or old ones. Adaptec slim scsi PCMCIA cards, Iomega Zip and CD drives, mobile hard drives, serial cards, wireless ethernet, bluetooth, etc. There are some drivers available here of course, but an indexed archive of device drivers for various devices split by CE version specifically for the handheld community would be bloody convenient. Could even just use the HCL. Click on what's already there to a generic links page where you could download the same drivers from various archives. I know several members here are already hosting files for the HPC community. Best to have redundant storage. (you can tell I'm still traumatized by DOZENS of bad links searching for an obscure wireless serial port driver....)
Then we could all chip in and contribute drivers for devices that we KNOW work. A community resource. Stone Soup Drivers, as it were.
What say, mates? |

| Personally I think it is a terrific idea.
Technically the problem for most of this is licensing to redistribute. I know, for example, Cisco would never allow for us to repository - even link to the driver on their site - a driver for their Aironet cards. Other OEMs would likely be of the same ilk.
This is something that Chris and I have discussed in the past and it's more of a legal issue than a technical issue. We too host files here as well but have the permission to do so. |

It does have most yes but it is not exhaustive. I think the OP was wanting to have one, mother-of-all type location which we do not have in the HCL. |

| Every device I enter into the HCL, I source drivers for - if applicable. Aside from Cisco and their EULA terms, and linksys because they don't work. The archive is complete.
Lack of drivers from the 450 devices in there equates to lack of compatibility submissions, so if anyone has anything to add please use the form.

| Some suggestion on the hardware page
While we are on improving the drivers page, how about having Hardware page like being slightly obvious as to what is a link and what is not?
The top left HCL image is above the section description, making it appear more like a section logo than a clickable link. Its link is repeated at "Improve your CE life, Upgrade your hardware".
Then we have the set of links on the right that looks like standard links.
How about like this? (hpc-hardware (Medium) (3).JPG) Attachments ---------------- hpc-hardware (Medium) (3).JPG (55KB - 11 downloads) |
