| I've been thinking this for a while now- the screen on my 720 is really quite unbelievably dim (like its operator )
I thought it was "just one of those things" to do with a DSTN screen, however, I got my 680 out the other day for a dust off to check that MagnetiCE CAB files worked on more than one machine.
The screen on the 680 is definitely brighter, by quite some margin.
Is this normal? Did HP deliberately tone down the 720 in order to preserve battery life? Am I being stalked? What was that movement on the edge of my vision? Was that a black helicopter? (mumble: good job I've got my tinfoil hat... )
Anyone else found this? I am tempted to dismantle the two machines to see if there's any difference in the display hardware, and could possibly end up swapping the screens over. The icon display on the 720 is slightly different, but I could live with that...
Cheers,
Nick. |

| Chris, you're a genius
Course I have
I had both side by side, and altered both brightness and contrast. No matter what I did, the 720 never looked anywhere near as good as the 680.
Weird. Truly weird. |

| I see... you can come kill me later then
It's a difficult one to help you with, without a side by side I cannot tell you if it's your device or range wide.
Perhaps - I speculate - it has something to do with the design evoloution and better power man / batt life that they marketed as getting from it.
If I ever findmyself in the North, I'll be sure to come by and compare notes. I might have to go to York sometime soon. If you're near by, you can shout me a Tea |

| "shout you a tea"?
By 'eck lad, this is Yorkshire! As locale-specific stereotypes go, we make the Scottish look positively reckless with their money!
I've wondered about the power saving too, in order to boost advertised battery life, but the screen quality is quite a lot different - much to its detriment.
I've currently got three psions in bits, so hacking a 720 and 680 apart wouldn't add too much to the confusion. I may give it a bash. Before I do, does anyone have a service manual?
Do give me a shout if you come up this way, it'd be good to put a face (and voice ) to the words . Might even run to a beer... Although, as this is Yorkshire and, as the saying goes, "you are what you drink", it'd have to be bitter.
Cheers,
Nick

| You bitter, miserly Northerner
Ya' just can't compare to me, a Sweet, impoverished Southerner
If I give you forewarning, does that mean I only get the one black eye?
Not got a service manual no. However I have pulled the 720 apart, several times - thanks to a certain Mr. Fitch. I know my way around if you need assistance. |

| Hey now, every H/PC, PC, Server should have a name. "Pinkie" was my original Jornada 720, which Chris now has and is attempting to Frankenstein back to life.
So you don't name your equipment?
