| So, convince me that skinning my 6651 is worth the ram and time
What better than an uncluttered utilitarian desktop that never gets in your way?

| YOU, concerned about ram? for skinning?
Look at that tray, darn, you defenately need that big a screen if you fill up the systray that full.
If I look at those wisbar skins of C:AMIE, it seems like the systray does not get skinned, and in your case, that means half the screen would not be skinned at all.
Unless you clean up some apps from the startup, I dont think skinning would do much good.
What do you got all in there?

| I'm a super freak when it comes to a small RAM footprint. So, I popped up my "biggest" menu, just to provide an idea of the "heavyweight" programs I have installed. Everything I could get moved to CF is there. I never have regretted having "only" 32mb. Well, I did when I first got my 6651 and installed everything to ram.
LOL, I had 7mb of program memory. I would remove and install programs to make space. Then I got a CF card and learned about ram management. I wonder how many boobs have ditched their hpc because it didn't have enough ram? Edited by wallythacker 2005-07-26 1:11 AM

| I soft reset one of my 720's
Opened System Properties
There is (and was ) nothing running in the background or tray
I'm using my Longhorn 5203 skin + XP Icon mod
Without shell skinning In Use: 3460KB
With skin: 3732KB
So 272KB difference
The skins graphics in this case are 12.2KB
So er, you tell me... It's not something I can decide for you |

| Hmm, less than 1% of my total ram for, admittedly, a very nice look. And I can tell my buddies I have embedded Longhorn, lol
Next question, as a skinning noob, is it much work?

| I guess we're at odds on that one then, what were you finding difficult with it? - info worth documenting should others find it to be problematic |

| oh, it was some time ago.. trying to remember.. for example finding out about the quirks (you can't use autohide ), some settings - what they are for on a HPC (instead of a PPC ) (i can look at it if you'd like to know the exact ones that were problematic ) |
