Hello,

I just signed up for this forum. I just purchased used HP Jornada 680e (WinCE 2.11, no modem). I am new to palm devices. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I finally got Wi-Fi setup for my HP Jornada 680e and it works fine.

Problem:

When I visit some websites on internet using Pocket PC, I get error message,

"unable to establish secure connection error".

I can't even login into yahoo sites (e.g. mail or my yahoo) or ebay.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem? Other than using ActiveSync, I am not familiar with other software or upgrades for WinCE 2.11.

Is there any document that describes step by step instructions and where to download required component to resolve this issue? If someone provides me this information, I will write it up and post it here.

Thanks in advance.

I've yet to browse on my H/PC, but perhaps the encryption patch at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a091975d-5d66-4b31-b158-05bc410efcbe&displaylang=en might help.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the world of H/PC 's. I hope you'll enjoy the device.

You can also get the 128-bit SSL update from the downloads serction here on Factor. Although it may not solve all of your connection problems. It should get you into eBay (I can on my z50 at least).

Connect your device up to ActiveSync close all programs on the H/PC, download and run the .exe. Everything else will sort itself out for the install. Once complete soft reset the device using the stylus nib in the red dot next to the Q key.

Just a pedantic point - but for future it may save you some confuction. You referenced the 680 as a Palm (Palm OS based device) and Pocket PC (Different type of Windows CE device).
I only mention because you may have a tech support question in the future and get advice back for a different device.
The terms are 'Palmtop' and 'Handheld PC' for that lovely pup you have there.

Thank you!!!!

After working nearly all day to overcome the secure connection problem, downloading the 128-bit ssl patch, installing same and having the same problem as when I started the fix . . . a soft reset did the trick!!!

I can now get my yahoo e-mail with the best of them!

My reman'd Jornada 680e, 3com 10Mbps Lan CF II+ Card, and a quick hack of a Type I CF PCMCIA card and I am again a happy road warrior. My laptop can stay home, at last.

Dear Experienced.

Starting from what you now know, what is the best route to either a PCMCIA modem (brands and model numbers) and/or wireless cards including the software patches. Thanks Can you reply also to azhjph@ispwest.com

Not sure about modems but the Cisco Aironet 350 WIFI card is the best (I have one) Once properly configured it works like a dream

Many Thanks to everybody and espesially to C:Amie !
I own a NEC MobilePro 780 and had the same problem.
I resolved it with the 128-SSl update which i downloaded from here.
In case you're a newbie to H/PCs, like i am,please here are the complete instructions:
1. save the 128bit.exe to your host PC
2. connect via Active Sync the host to your H/PC
3. double click on the 128bit.exe on your host PC
4. click every ''Yes'' or ''Accept'' you'll be asked for
5. let the installation to proceed
and finally
6. when you'll be asked for a replacement of a file click on ''replace''
hope i put my little stone of help to this issue.
In addition if anyone has a registration ID for the ParaWin CE program i'll be much obliged to inform me about.
