SH3 vs mips?

i get the impression from the forums that there is more software for the SH3 then the mips based hpcs, is this correct? any other advantages one holds over the other?

im trying to decide between the jornada 680e and the mobile pro 780 available on tigerdirect.

by the way, anyone have any expierence with running ssh on 2.11/(mips or sh3)?

where did you get that impression? actually i have no idea but i think they're equal in software support..
mips is known to be faster than sh3.. so i would recommend mips. i've never had a mips device but that's the general idea..
but if portability matters too, you should get the 680e.

I had both at one time. I sold the sh3 for two reasons.
1. It was a j690 and rated at 133mhz but seemed intolerably slow to me.
2. It was ce 2.11 and I couldn't find enough software to suit my needs.

I always preferred the SH3, mainly because I started with a SH3 so migration wasn't really something one wnated to contend with.
There is a perception that there's more avialable for SH3 in the 2.00 range, and Pro range because hp dominates the H/PC world, and up until the 820 all used SH3.

Most developers compiled for MIPS and SH3 right up until HPC2000 was released.

SH3 or MIPS ? Most of the same software is available for both processors, the speed difference is probably marginal.

What might be a more important consideration when comes to deciding between the HP 680e and the 780, is SIZE. Size of the unit and size of the RAM memory.

The NEC 780 is much larger and not something you can stuff in your pocket, but the 680e has only 16MB of the internal RAM Memory, while 780 has 32MB.... more memory is good.
