Out of interest ( and incurable cheapskatedness ) what is the cheapest HPC2000 device that can be acquired? Legally, of course!

MP790?

I'd second that. The 720, 728, Intermec 6651 - all the big name HPC 2000 devices are all a bit to quite a bit more expensive than the MP790 (which can be found for $150US or less).

I agree

My 790, 720 and HC 7000 are all HPC2000 and yes the 790 was the cheapest, strangely the 7000 was cheaper than the 720 but if it was called a 6651......

Tony

PS cheapest doesn't always mean worst either :-)

Actually, I can tell you what the cheapest is simply because I too am looking for one. I am about to buy the NEC MP790 from Unity Electronics. Why? Because it is in fact cheap, and I trust the company with my money. I've seen a few MP790's on eBay, but I don't trust the support ... but....

Unity Electronics - $199 (90 day warranty)
eBay - $149 (90 day warranty, screen may have scratches, free 64mb CF and carry case)

There you are.

I'm off to order mine now.

well imo the 720 and 7000/6651 are better than the 790 but surely not everyone will agree with me

From someone who plugged a 24V adapter in to their 790 and blew it up. Basically you have to find a dead 790 (on Ebay probably) and remove the ROM chip from it. Backup the Bsquared software off your 780 first, since the Backup software isn't in the 790 ROM image. (It's in the Flash file store on the 790's for some odd reason.)

Just a reminder to everyone in the thread that if you are looking to buy or sell H/PCs, check out Usedhandhelds.com. These are the same people who run Pocket PC Magazine (Hal Goldstein) and they have terrifc service.

You can find a link to their site at the top of the HPC:Factor front page.
