Well, I haven't even recieved my MP790 yet, and I'm already diving into the development kit. I've installed the eVT 3.0 (For HPC2000 and Pro) as well as the SDKs.

Thought I would share this with everyone:

http://www.justppc.com/evb.shtml

I'm not sure if you all have seen it, but it seems relevant even though its for PPC.

Does anyone know if you can run eVB programs designed for HPC Pro on HPC 2000?

The reason I ask is because I can't seem to find an HPC2000 emulation add-in for eVT 3.0...

Oh well, it's tons of fun messing with this stuff. I tried embedded C++ but that was a bit much for me. I think the VB would be a better start for me.

abyssknight,

The link's a good one for those starting out, good job.

On the emulator front, there is no Emulator for HPC2000 - it's a source of consternation, raised voices and elevated blood pressure... - You can run HPC Pro apps on HPC2000 yes.

When you get the 790, you can just send it straight out to the device itself of course

Do you have any ideas of plans in the pipeline for what you would like to do with eVT?

Yes, I've seen that site, its exellant, though I havn't used it much.

Most of the eVB stuff on the web's either just targeted on PPC's or is just non-existant.

I've done quite a bit of eVB porting now. Something you probably will need are DoEventsCE. If any one would like it, just ask.

No promises yet, but I was planning on creating an RSS reader.

Granted, this will be the first time I've touched VB, but it seems easy to pick up. I took a look at those tutorials and made my "Hello World", of course I added switchable frames and an button to click. Took a look at http://www.devbuzz.com/ for their XML tutorial, sadly, I didn't get anything to work. Maybe I got PPC specific code there...

The idea I have for the RSS reader is simple...

Frame 1
Txt file populated select box for feeds
On select, allow redownload of latest feed OR view of last downloaded copy
[ Need to check for internet connection using XMLHttpRequest try/catch block... not sure how yet, but I know you can because I've used it in Javascript... for the same project! ]
Parse RSS from downloaded/cached xml into HTML view
(Not sure what I need for that, DevBuzz said I needed a WebBrowserCE component that costs a bit of cash...)

Frame 2
Allow user editable feeds via \n delimited text box (saves and loads for txt)

I probably need to run through a few more tutorials before I go crazy, but I don't think this is too far fetched for a newbie.

If this were PHP, I could do it in an hour...

I'd like a working web browser component, PM me if you find a decent one, no matter what the cost is.

(a) Kudos my man!
Something painfully lacking from the H/PC.
As we're looking at getting RSS feeds for various things during this year, you could be on to a winner

Glad to know there's a need!

Whatever I create will be at the least donation ware. I honestly don't expect people to pay for it. I'm as cheap as they come! Heck, it'll probably be an open source demo of eVB for HPC Factor.

I found for for PPC a long time ago, but I am pretty sure it is out of development.

Here's a link to the WebBrowserCE control:

http://www.intelliprog.com/products/prod03.html

I am going to go ahead and learn some VB then!

Any hints or tutorials you guys find, pass them my way!

EDIT: Also, here's a few from Trillium...

EDIT (again): FREE and OPEN SOURCE...

Hahaha. I'm pretty sure I don't know what I'm doing, but hey, I'm learning... I think.

Spent a good hour trying to figure out how to add buttons to the system menu (I guess that's the CE Command Bar?) and ... yeah I still don't know.

I guess I really need to pick up a VB book or something.

On the bright side, I have a really nice interface built for the RSS reader. lol.
