OK, tried imaging 32GB SD card put in SD card slot in Panasonic laptop using Win32_DI.....

Since card was already partition into 3 from prior attempt, I used Windows Disk Management program to delete partitions and then formatted card as FAT32.

I may be wrong, but have understanding that Win32_DI unlike Etcher, etc, does not erase and format card prior to imaging card.

Anyway, Win32_DI got done, but then I got window that popped up on screen saying:

Microsoft Windows

You need to format the disk in drive E: before you can use it.

Do you want to format it?

Assume I should ignore this message as I assume it's because Windows doesn't recognize partitions formatted for linux, correct?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

Correct, just ignore it... it can't read ext2, ...ext4.. Just eject and place in J728.
Oh, check params.txt for mem=setting 32,64, 128.

More bad news.....

After imaging, I edited PARAMS file....

Then put SD card in CF adapter and in J720 CF slot......

First I got message asking if I wanted to format card in order to use it.....not good sign....

Said 'No' and then double-tapped on 'Storage Card' icon....and it showed empty directory......not good sign.....

Put CF card adapter into PC Card adapter in J720 PC Card slot.....

Same situation.....empty directory....

Time to cry "Uncle" ?????

Mark

PS. Think I will try another card....have a 32GB SanDisk microSD card.....also have some 16GB cards...but would need your other image file for those....

OK, either I'm jinxed or the SD to CF adapter is a bum one.....I assume.....

Took almost an hour to image my 32GB SanDisk microSD card....surprised, but maybe it's due to using it with a SD card adapter in laptop.

Edited the PARAMS text file and then put card in adapters and into the J720.....and voila! nothing shows up in storage card directory.....

Unless you think something else is going on, I'll send back the adapter for another one.....

Processed Amazon return request for the SD-CF adapter....

Meanwhile, can't get the microSD - SD card adapter out of the SD-CF adapter......nothing to grab onto with fingers....need to try a strong but thin tweezer.......

If its not one thing, its another.....

UPDATE

Borrowed tweezers and got the adapter out!

Meanwhile, I booted laptop into Manjaro to check if Manjaro recognizes the imaged SD cards.....it does!

So, it's now clear that I got a bad SD-CF adapter card.....

New card should arrive Monday if all goes smooth....we shall see.....

Bummer, you tried hard resets? can you copy files to the fat partition in Windows 10 or the Jornada? Have Minitoolpartion app... do partitions show in Windows or Linux.

Cut plastic case not a good sign nor is long burn time. Could be /Seems the gods are conspiring against you. Did you decimate some red ants with a hammer when you were a little kid (like I did)... payback time??? Or they are just afraid of the immense power you will acquire when the J728 is reincarnated as Super User!!

Might also try mem= 64 when recognized. Jeez!

Posting this with prism WEP to old router set to wep and temp plugged into WPA2 router (router behind router) for internet. Much faster... gonna work on wpa-supplicant for better /real security. Leaves the WL54 in the dust... using the connmanctl app as well as interfaces file

Been there... small piece of scotch tape will save the day.... apply only to sd to microsd adapter then pull out.

Sorry about all the obstacles popping up. Try a smaller, 2Gb image as burn time much reduced, basically same files just less empty space on drive.

Good News. Now have fast 11Mb/s WPA connection between J720 and RasPi (no longer tethered to it). With Netgear MA401 firmware update is much faster than WL54 Ambicom (presently... but expect that to change) and uses ntwares x-forwarding approach/concept wedded to Stefan's connman wifi fix...and of course Stefan ...the Master Magician's, great and wonderful Linux/ Devuan port.

Intend to create a compressed image for downloading in near future . Will configure RasPi as hot spot /AP (to eliminate router) for direct wifi connection, etc. Need to add Xmod keys, correct menu to English, and other things. I intend to make it rather foolproof and EASY. Help me with feedback on what needs to be added.. Thanks in advance.

Hey, thanks for the recognition!

Well... Stefan's success with the ambicom WL54 is amazing... WPA2 connection!! Now the J720 can go anywhere and connect to text based websites with Lynx. Hopefully in time we'll speed things up so VNC or Firefox work too. Still, amazing... absolutely!

Now, WPA works great when combined with the RasPi because you ssh into RasPi securely and the RasPi connects with WPA2 and can open any website, sign on with captcha, etc. So it's a powerful combo.

Now that it's easy to upgrade the MA401 and WPC11 wifi cards to WPA encryption... using Winupdate.exe and the proper firmware s001070.hex file,etc...the J720 can stay connected at least 2 hours in Devuan off stock J720 battery powering wifi too. Not bad.

I'm still working out some details between connman and wifi cards. Furthermore, I found out the Aironet 350 cards can also work with proper linux driver setup!

I have a few other tricks up my sleeves... for the future.

All sounds good, Joval!

You are the clever one!

Will be interesting to see which card is the speed king.......

Meanwhile, my sad saga continues.....spare you the details....

Hopefully, things will turnaround by end of this week.....

We shall see.....
