Ok call me crazy ! But !

I had no idea HP had a 340LX model til just recently. When I worked at Compusa we had the 300LX, then the 320LX as well and then we stopped carrying the 300LX and we started to carry the 320LX and 360LX.

What exactly was the 340LX ?

I heard about the HP340LX first time from you.

Here seems to be a picture of it on Twitter.

Up until earlier this year id never heard of it.

Found this:

http://www.computer-specifications.com/specifications/HewlettPackard-340LXPalmtopPC-Specs.html

320LX
OS Windows CE 1.0
Ram Built in: 4mb
Processor: 44mhz SH3

340LX
OS: Windows CE 2.0
Ram Built in: 4mb
Processor: 44mhz SH3

360LX
OS: Windows CE 2.0
Ram Built in: 8mb
Processor: 60mhz SH3

So it seems like the 340LX was just a 320LX with windows CE 2.0. Maybe thats another reason its so hard to find those 2.0 roms for the 320LX ? So it must of had a green backlight and not the white, like the 360LX. Also how it ran CE 2.0 on only 4mb of ram. Velo needs the 4mb built in and at least another 4mb (8mb is recommended) Dram card. Curious how they managed to get 2.0 running with that little space. Maybe someone knows more about this.

Repacked 320LX it is ;-)

Actually going by this link:

https://phonedb.net/index.php?m=device&id=170&c=hewlett-packard_palmtop_340lx

It did have the white backlight. So it was a 320LX with a 360LX screen and Windows CE 2.0 it seems. Also it had a 10MiB rom, so that must be how they were able to put CE 2.0 on it with only 4mb of memory.

Interesting, learn something new everyday ;-)

We've had the 340LX listed for some time in our Devices & Specifications section:

https://www.hpcfactor.com/hardware/devices/specification.asp?d=54

I'm surprised C:Amie hasn't chimed in here yet, since he had one.

I'm not that dedicated to the cause here you know.

The 340 was HP re-generating excess inventory without needing to retool the production line once CE 2.0 arrived and it became clear that it would be bigger than CE 1. There was no significant production run of them and so they are extremely rare. Basically just a parts and inventory clearance process.

Any CE ROM chip is hard to get hold of. The CE 2.0 chips for the 320 however, I can tell you where they went. I brought the entire supply inventory off of Ericsson Europe and sold them through HPC:Factor back in the day. I also have one of - if not the last - F1239A ROM upgrade kits sold by HP as I had to pull some media strings to get it back when HP thought us relevant to their bottom line.
