In the picture at the top of this link, it looks like the Nec Mobilepro has a backlight like the 360LX. Did it have a white backlight ? If so now I really want to find one of these ! :-)

Walt;

Sorry, no, the 700 never had a white backlight. As a matter of fact, the 700 has one of the least bright backlights I've ever used. What looks like a white backlight in the photo is probably a light bounced off a white reflector used to illuminate the shoot.

However, I wonder if the backlight can be switched... Something to investigate... (I know you can switch backlight material on a Newton (and get blue, green, white, etc. Newtons)).

Yeah I was gonna do the white backlight for my Emate 300, but I never got around to doing it.

As if the eMate didn't already eat up enough power.

When I redid the Emate batteries I used 3000mah cells and it lasted over 24 hours, 17 or so with the backlight left on. I rebuilt about 50 of these units from top to bottom. It was amazing. Kinda like putting a SSD into a computer that never had one before ;-)

The original batteries were either 900 or 1200mah i think. Its been awhile since i use to do the rebuilds.

But you HAVE to use the original charger (AC) unit. The new units that claim they work on ebay, do not. Has to be the original Apple charger. If you have found a new charger that works ill be shocked.

I had a Emate 300 for quite awhile, had a wifi card for it. Someone had sent me a PCMCIA card full of just about every program out there for it. Loved the keyboard, but (getting back to the back light) I always wanted to do the white backlight mod. hehe

The green backlight reminds me of the old Timex ads when they first came out the the indiglo
