NEC NIMH Battery Charger - normal AA batteries

My MobilePro 700 came with an NEC NIMH Battery Charger (model S1424-16)

Anyway, is it safe to use this with normal AA batteries that are rechargeable / NIMH?

The back of the device has a warning about leaking or explosions if this isn't used with a specific model battery (S1424-15)

Yes as long as you use NIMH rechargeables you are on the safe side.

Although if you plan on using it regularly and are concerned about the longevity of your rechargeables I would recommend you getting a modern smart charger, as most of those "old" NIMH chargers just rely on a set timer, regardless of the actual state of charge

Congratulations on your MobilePro btw, as much as I like my Jornada 680, there is just something special about a palmtop using AAs

Thank you! I think I will keep it but set a timer to get them off of the battery charger. It’s cool for a retro purpose. I don’t know if it has much “value” to sell alone. So it’s nice to have the original. Besides I’d have to purchase another anyway (I do have a micro usb to AA charger, it’s just not very compact. )

CE Geek! I miss my 360LX! UsedHandhelds has a Portuguese model on their eBay but I don’t need another H/PC! Hahaha. Yet I also don’t need a CE6 Arm Thin Client. But those are tempting too!
