I installed the 3C589 drivers for the H/PC 2000 from this site and the card works only one way. The card is a 3Com 3CXE589ET. I can ping the device from another PC but I can't ping nothing (not even the router) from the device.

Does any one know if this card works with these drivers?

If not, what NIC card do you recommend this is available on eBay?

Thanks you.

The card is compatible with that driver, however the driver is a beta driver and there is no development going on at the moment with it.

It works A-OK under StrongArm, however we received little to no feedback on MIPS.
All in all if you are able to ping the device one way, it suggests that the driver is indeed working. Does the adapter work correctly when in a Laptop?

Yes, the card works fine on a laptop. I even did a hard reset on the device and installed the driver but the same behaviour. Would the older (H/PC Pro) drivers work?

Plan B: Do you think Linksys Ethernet 10BaseT NP10T will work without any problems?

It's always worth a shot.

I've checked the driver build and there is nothing different between the StrongArm and MIPS one settings wise.

As for the linksys, personally I tend to avoid anything linksys branded when H/PC related. Their drivers are a nightmare.

Have a look on the HCL for compatibility lists:

Personal recommendation. Socket LPE.

This card is on the list of compatible devices. Do I need though to install any drivers or is it plug-n-play?

If we have any drivers they are in the notes section on the HCL entry

What you could have is a card flashed with an incompatable firmware. My friend gave me his 3com 3CRWE737A because it wouldn't work on his MP790. It works wonders on a laptop, but with the latest 3com drivers it wasn't detected. Here, somehow, it was flashed with a far newer firmware than was available on 3com's site. (The latest driver/firmware version on 3com's website was 2.20. The version on the card was 2.5.)

I flashed the older version and it works like a charm.
