It means that it doesn't have the correct codec installed I believe.
Interesting, and how do I know which Codec is missing? |

| You have to interrogate the file.
WMP9 should have installed the base Windows ones, they should still work via mplayer2.exe. You can also install the windows media 8 and 9 codec packages, but I've no idea if they update the mp3 decoders. |

| I avoided installing WMP 9, because, a while ago, I did and it was really heavy. It couldn't even play music without the PC doing anything else.
Informationally, I settled for email with Pegasus Mail. Now I can receive and send emails!
A little heavy, but it works quite well!

| Yes it is heavy. As far as I can recall, installing 9 doesn't uninstall 6.4 (mplayer2.exe)
I thought you wanted a service, not a mail app? |

Sure, I wanted a service. But since it doesn't exist, I found a program. Obviously if you know a lighter one, any advice is welcome!
As for WMP9, I didn't know about that particular. So can I try to install it and see if the problem goes away? Obviously using mplayer2.exe.
Unless I solve it by installing a K-ite Codec Pack Basic. Edited by NarakuITA 2022-10-21 3:19 PM

| It's worth a shot. I think I'm remembering correctly that 9 didn't remove mplayer2.exe. I know that 7 didn't.
You will have to change the default file handlers back to WMP6.4 of course. |

Look, I'm noticing a problem. Computer Management, does not start.
I have an external drive to partition, but I can't, as the utility won't start. There is no mistake .... |

| That usually means that it is hanging trying to mount the volume manager i.e. it's not liking the disk. It may time-out eventually... depends ho 'hung' the MMC is.
See if diskpart will load in CMD. |

| Doesn't recognize the command.
"is not recognized as an internal or external command".
Keep in mind that even if the USB disk is disconnected the problem still occurs.
I remember, that I used the utility once, before doing the updates. Now after the updates it doesn't work.
EDIT:
Ok, found. The service was on "disabled". problem solved! Thank god!

| The volume manager service was disabled?
I don't think that's default
Oh yes, that's right, it wasn't icluded by default until XP. It was a download for 2000:

| Ok, I solved it with K-lite Codec Pack.
Question, WMP6.4 is very light, but WinPlay3 is even more so.
I'd like to use the latter, as I've always used it. However it is not able to play the music of large Removable discs such as 500GB. Only on the main drive and 2GB or m16GB USB and CD players.
If I try to listen to music, from a 500GB disk, it gives an error.
I would like to use this program, to reduce the CPU workload even more.
I don't know of an ultra light MP3 player program!

| I'm not sure why an app would be unable to play a file, that's the file system drivers problem, not the app's. What happens if you create a SMB share to the drive and play over the SMB connection? |

| SMB connection ?? I have no idea what it is and how to do it.
Anyway, I forgot to tell you, that when I start the program for the first time it asks me for floppy disk A: I searched for links but found nothing.
The strange thing is that the program cannot see some MP3 folders and music.
If I try to manually force playback of a song, I get the following error message:
The program plays only the audio files it can see on the disc. Everyone else, even if MP3 doesn't see them. If you drag the audio file to the player, it cannot play the music track.
The audio tracks he sees, he plays them. Is this a bugs? Very strange....

| That looks like a 16-bit app, it's using 8.3 and can't handle long file names. That's probably closer to your issue. Try WinAmp or something else. |

| Is it lighter than WMP6.4?
Ah! I wanted to ask you something. Is there a universal scanner program? I use the program provided by HP, it works well, but it is very heavy and starts very slowly. Do you know anything light? |
