Okay, I have made some encoding changes

Before it was stepping through:
UTF-16 > UTF-8 > ANSI > Unicode

Now it is
ANSI > UTF-8 > Unicode > Unicode

I couldn't see any encoding corruption anywhere in a hex editor though so I don't think that this will change anything.

As always, no errors, no warnings.

Oh My Word....

I just had a little lightbulb thought go through my head and tested it.

I build the file in CAB Maker

The SHA1 of the CAB on the server disk in CAB Maker is
CabDef.CAB
8697EDC0AE5AFA7E30FF2DA2032B9031CD556EC51728A3ECCD5F3E0DA94076F9

I download it to my PC.

The SHA1 for that is
Microsoft.VBCE2.0RuntimeforCE3.0.486.cab
8697EDC0AE5AFA7E30FF2DA2032B9031CD556EC51728A3ECCD5F3E0DA94076F9

I uploaded it to the forum and then immediately downloaded it again
Microsoft.VBCE2.0RuntimeforCE3.0.486.cab
FD0392B65DE26AF197B2D329C69F165D69D9CFD70240FC4471D55998E79CD2F3

I just tested the raw file on the server's disk
183808-CAF270FD-43AE-41C4-B998-BEE2F080C359
FD0392B65DE26AF197B2D329C69F165D69D9CFD70240FC4471D55998E79CD2F3

the FORUM is corrupting the CAB on upload

That's so strange, I wonder why that is Now I'm getting "The application cannot run on this device type" which is progress at least!
I wonder if I could edit wceload in PB in order to remove all the checks for validity

There are 8 bits sitting at the end of the file uploaded to the server that aren't there on the source

We've also proven that the installer acts differently depending on the version. You were getting error messages on CE 5, torch on CE 6 is just seeing it exit. CE 3 doesn't care!

This has no PocketPC/PsPC/HPC2.0 blocks on it:

This installed just fine! Trying to run any .pvb file yields "xyz.pvb requires Visual Basic for Windows CE runtime version 0.1 (pvb.exe), which is not installed."
