Which video stream format for streaming video to a HPC?

So, I'm working on a little side project, sadly I don't have any handheld with me for a while. So maybe someone can help me out..

I'd like to create a live video stream that should be as accessible as possible! Likely one 320x240 and one 240x160 version.
Question is, which video format and protocol to choose so it works on as-old-as-possible Windows CE devices.

RTMP or HTTP? MPEG2? oggv?

I guess the player of choice would be TCPMP? Does Windows Media player support streaming video our of the box?

If anyone has experience with this or thoughts on it, please do share!

WMP for the H/PC prior to CE4 doesn't support video at all.

We used to optimise for the H/PC using DivX back in the day. Which is a MPEG 4 Part 2 codec - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_2

I learned a lot about video codecs and containers, thanks for the pointer C:Amie

So I got a pretty much working setup now, after falling into some pitfalls! (At first I set up an rtmp server, but turns out you can't stream divx over rtmp)

In the end I set up a mediamtx server (which can ingest and serve rtsp) with ffmpeg encoding the stream as divx/mp3!

I'll still experiment around a bit, can't wait to see it on a handheld

En mi Jornada 728 pude ver a traves de Pocket Tv un mpeg-1 (on demand ) - Supongo que si logras una trasmisión en vivo en ese formato, podrías verlo sin problemas con el Pocket Tv.
