| Try putting the old H/PC C++ runtimes in the same folder as the exe? |

| What DLL's does dependency walker say it needs? |

| dependency walker doesn't like cab files, as in: https://www.hpcfactor.com/scl/907/PhatWare_Corp/PhatSpell_CE.NET/version_1.0?page=download
So weird that the cab install runs on @thenzero 's Sig3, but not mine.

| Wait...just trying to fully understand what you're saying. You installed the cab from the SCL for phat spell, it installed the program (in Program Files?) and then you ran it from a HW shortcut as I outlined (by editing the registry) or some other similar method, then highlighted a word and pressed the shortcut key and...nothing happened? Or are you trying to double click the exe and run it? Or what?
Edit: sorry I got my wires crossed there - HPC Spell was the hexedited cab, the phat spell one worked directly from the SCL. Post edited to correct.

| No, that does not work. And if RedGear is disabled, I get "not a valid" error in Japanese.

| The SCL cab doesn't install on your sig? That is interesting. I think I only tried it on a freshly reset device with only the English MUI installed. Let me try it on one with redgear and see what it does there. |

| I found a phatnotes that apparently has phatspell. Weirdly, it installs via WMDC, but like phatspell, crashes device upon start.

| Thank you. Progress but still crashing. The Phatspell setup in the Control actually works this time, but the machine still freezes when trying to activate the actual Phapspell.

| Is this with or without redgear? I'm wondering if this thing is reaching out to one of the libraries that redgear replaces. As C:Amie mentioned up-thread, you might need to point DLL walker (or exec check is what I use) at the executable to see what it's looking for. We can fool it with some DLL trickery to make it play nice with redgear. |

| Wait...you said it freezes??? Meaning your sig locks up? |

| When I uninstall RedGear, soft rest, install phatspell/dictionary cabs, I get an invalid error. Reinstalling RedGear after Phatware installs crashes machine upon clicking actually exe/hotkey. PhatSpell cpl works fine.

| Mm that does sound like a redgear incompatibility. Do you have a system backup you can go back to before redgear as an experiment?
This is the process I do for resetting the sig:
1. bsquare backup
2. hard reset
3. install english MUI (some names/paths are different after install, so I do this before restore)
4. bsquare restore
5. reinstall system updates (I believe these work by writing a ROM update into RAM and then creating a pointer into the file system...so the restore will muck these up) |

| Well, before you do that, let's check on the DLL deps for phatspell since that's easier to try. |
