Choking on the stench of ambition in Washington DC

Been looking for a lightweight, ssl-capable browser for my ancient Sony Vaio that's still running Lubuntu 10.04. Chromium or Links2 for Lucid doesn't have current security and can't be updated without dependency hell.

In Pale Moon's archive section, I downloaded its earliest iteration, extracted it into a directory, and since it's portable, away it went. It'll run on an sd card.

Obviously, with aging cpus, I blocked images and anything else to make the url as light as possible, but I am surprised at its relative speed and ability to reach most sites. It even imports other browsers' bookmarks, etc if you desire. One can practically emulate links2's speed and minimal approach by enabling View/Page Style/No Style

It has a overly-heightened sense of security, sending up alarms about sites as mild as washingtonpost.post, forcing you to make said site an exception. Furthermore, certain sites (eg: hpcfactor.com) don't properly display, weirdly showing the hpcfactor home page's text in its entirety, but only using 2/3s of the screen to do so. I haven't yet figured out why.

Too bad developers never considered a Windows CE version. Or even DOS...

Pale moon is great. I've been using MyPal 68 on my XP laptop, which has been working flawlessly.

I'm really enjoying the current trend of modern browsers being created for old operating systems. I believe there's something similar for several of Apple's older operating systems too. My only concern is that people will try create a security risk for themselves, but as long as you understand the limitations of these browsers then they're really fun.

Most have been abandoned, except for one which is a text only browser. I have an iBook Clamshell SE with OS 9.2 and would love to go online. There are a couple of webpages which will help you view modern websites but it doesn't always work and navigating links are next to impossible.

For my PowerPC G4, G5, I swore by this browser
https://github.com/wicknix/InterWebPPC

Works great! (basically a now discontinued fork of tenfourfox)

There's also RetroZilla for Windows
https://github.com/rn10950/RetroZilla/releases/tag/2.2 [albeit rather old - 2019]
Also @NarakuITA discovered
https://goldenbrowser.eu.org
but I think she swears by K-Meleon 74 on Windows 2000

I believe this is the browser I'm thinking of: https://github.com/rmottola/Arctic-Fox . It not only supports PowerPC Macs but it supports everything newer as well, including native support for Apple Silicon Macs apparently.

Oh I saw that one too, I just was sad only PowerPC is supported on Linux.
The graphics support on Linux was terrible with my PowerPC macs, so I just have them running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5
