They look interesting, but I haven't really seen people talking about them.

Wikipedia says that the Handbook 486 can run Linux, which is cool.

The trackpoint-like nub seems really appealing, too.

Nice find. I never seen those before. It’s pretty big, looking at it being compared to 3.5inch floppy drive.

Here's several links to Japanese sites, which might be interesting to some people.

Thanks for the links

I've been keeping my eyes out on eBay, but haven't seen any listings for this particular model. Might be pretty rare, but there's an extensive Wikipedia page, so there's gotta be more that just aren't being sold.

It seems like something I would actually use day-to-day, assuming that it has a good keyboard. The mouse-joystick would help a lot compared to the styluses that most compact devices.

Wiki says that it is "9.7 by 5.9 by 1.6 inches (246 by 150 by 41 mm)", which isn't as compact compared to a lot of the devices here. It's still smaller than the majority of laptops.

Oh yes, The NEC Mobile Pro 900 is:
246.22 mm x 128.18 mm x 30.25 mm
9.69 in x 5.05 in x 1.19 in

according to: https://www.hpcfactor.com/hardware/devices/134/NEC/MobilePro_900

It's actually almost exactly the same width! (just 0.01in. difference)

In a few weeks I'm visiting a huge used electronics warehouse. I'm going to add this to the list of things I'm hoping to find.

Will that run on AA's? If not, you could look for the Omnibook 300-400 series. Up until 425, the device will run on 4 AA's, very convenient. Comes with 3.1/Word 2.0/Excel/HP 200LX apps.

Can be expensive, though,
Jake
