I just got what seems to be a NOS (never been used). But im worried about the battery. I know you can get new batteries, but id love to see a step by step tear down of the battery pack and rebuild it myself.

Ive heard the newer batteries can do wonder on life space.

Im gonna run this unit with its stock (NOS battery) and let it charge overnight.

But if i was going to rebuild the battery what wwould the steps be ? Im bad with videos, better with pictures.

Aslo there is a SP for the unit to make it have more than 256 colors, does anyone know where i may find oner ?

Try this:
go here
https://drivers.eu/PDA/HP/Jornada%20680%20Handheld
and find the listing

Category:

HP Jornada 680 Handheld
Name:
Jornada 680/680e Vibrant Color Display Driver
Version:
1.0
Released:
23 Jun 1999
System:
Windows CE
Size:
23.45Kb
Description:
Jornada 680/680e Vibrant Color Display Driver for HP Jornada 680 Handheld
Type: Driver
The HP vibrant color display driver increases the color-depth of your HP Jornada 680/680e from 256 colors to 65,536 colors, which greatly enhances every color image you view on the Jornada while browsing the web or viewing BITMAP files. This driver will replace the existing 256 colors display driver in your Jornada. The file 680DDI64.ZIP contains two files: DDI.DLL and README.TXT. Please read the README.TXT for install and uninstall information. If you have an International English (purchased outside of the US/Canada) or non-English Jornada 680/680e, or if your unit has serial number SG92600000, this driver is already pre-installed in your Jornada and you do not need to install the driver again.

Let us know if it worked
And I can ask @C:Amie and/or @CE Geek if we should add that vibrant patch to the HPC:Factor Download Centre

I didn’t have any thoughts on the other items on the list since I don’t have any battery knowledge unfortunately.

Also this program will let you configure Pocket Internet Explorer to display all 64K colors
https://www.hpcfactor.com/scl/107/Tillanosoft/SmallTweak/version_3.5

By default it only shows 256

I have not gotten thast far yet. I still gotta get my network card setup and download a BUNCH of software. Ill takes pics later. Shes replacing my beloved 360LX! I will never selll my 360LX, i even have a 2nd one that works 100% otehr than the hinge is broken, so i can pretty much rebuild the entire unit if needed. Thats why my next thing on the list do do is get a 680e for parts.

What web broswer actually works on these things ? Id love to just get it connected to the network for email and maybe scroll google news ? This is all new to me havin this advance, makes my A11+ look like its a toy !

What is everyones top 10 things to do when they first get a new Palmtop like the 680e i got. ?

Curious to hear some answers, i hope to be getting on some BBS's later this week. I have a whopping 14.4k modem baby and if i need wireless i have a Wave Lan that is compatible with it. So many new things to experience with my new toy ! So far i like everything about this but give eme a week or two , im sure ill find something i dont like about it ! lol.

Keyboard is my fav part and having true colors (not just 256). 256 reminds me of the computer we upgraded back when windows 95 came out with 13 diskettes. Oh yeah people, pre CD rom at my house during this age ! >

People have been using an intermediary device like a Raspberry Pi for web browsing via proxy. Here’s how they set it up

https://www.hpcfactor.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=20404&start=1

For email I recommend nPOPuk
https://npopuk.org.uk/3.05/
Make sure you download the SSL version called npopuk305ssl_wce211sh3.zip (770kb) - Version with built-in SSL for your device.

Ah! I see what happened. I looked in the 690e H/PC update and didn’t see it but the 680 does show it. Thank you! You’re right
