What is the BEST txt based news website that will work with IE on a 680e Jornada ? I can get some sites to work and others dont. Frogfind works but some of the links wont load that it loads up. Id love to find a way of being able to simply read txt based news stories on the go with my 680e and im just having issues finding a consistent one that always works. Some articles load and others i just get a blank screen.

Oh and 68k news i got to load, but some articles will load and others wont.

Less secure apps & your Google Account
Starting in Fall of 2024, less secure apps, third-party apps, or devices that have you sign in with only your username and password will no longer be supported for Google Workspace accounts. For exact dates, visit Google Workspace Updates. To continue to use a specific app with your Google Account, you’ll need to use a more secure type of access that doesn’t share password data.. Learn how to use Sign in with Google.

If an app or site doesn’t meet our security standards, Google might block anyone who’s trying to sign in to your account from it. Less secure apps can make it easier for hackers to get in to your account, so blocking sign-ins from these apps helps keep your account safe.

Use more secure apps
If an app uses less secure sign-in technology, you might not be able to use it with your Google Account.

Apps that use only your username or password will create errors if they try to access your Google Account. These errors can appear as:

“Invalid username”
“Invalid password”
“Unable to log in”
You can sign in to your Google Account from any third-party app that has the "Sign in with Google" option. In some cases you may need to remove your Google Account and then add it again on your device.

Its weird. I cant load the sites if i type the address in. But if i search thru frogfind and search for the address and then click it, it loads. Haha. Its funny how wacky this setup is on the net. But if i type Poandpo.com and press enter, it wont load. I search for it on FF and it works... But im just happy i have found the sites i have so far. I am bookmarking a lot of these on the unit so i can just click thru my favs and itll load.

Wish 68k news worked, i swear it use to work....

Im hoping that email program that was mentioned a few posts ago works with gmail. :-) Id be very content with getting txt based news and my email on this unit to work.

Once i get the XP laptop and can connect to Active Sync, ill be able to try more things with finding a txt news site. I think there might be an update that i have NOT installed yet for IE. Or a Windows update that would help with this matter. I mean i find it weird that it wont even load google.com. I thought for sure itd load the google.com, maybe when ya clicked search it wouldnt work. But getting to the basic google.com itself. Weird. Cant thank this FrogFinder enough. Id love to find something that works thats like 68k news. I thought for sure 68k news would work correctly on this 680e.

Hopefully ill discover something out there that is truly just basic txt news.

It sounds to me that the browser is picky about the link format. Try typing the full www. First and if that doesn’t work try the full http://www. then

^ I already tried stuff like that. I literally spent hours working on trying to get txt news sites, but will have issues and gmail setup is a no go. From what ive discovered (thus far) is gmail wont work on a 600 series palmtop from HP. Not a huge deal, but it is nice when it DOES load the sites and you can use it to read the news. That poandpo.com (which wont load on its own) is the best so far. I have to use Frog Finder to search for it and then i can click poandpo.com and it loads (no issues) and all the links load with no issues. As i said above i tried www....., http://...., etc. Im just kinda blown away with how few browsers were ever made for these units.

Ah I see now. It looks like frog find is like an overlay over the website to format the content so it’ll load for your browser. So it makes sense why you can’t browse the particular website from IE proper. You have to run it through frog find

Like this article

http://frogfind.com/read.php?a=https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/10/windows-ce-microsofts-stunted-middle-child-reaches-end-of-support-at-26-years/

But i think if you attach this to the url you want to visit as a “prefix” I think frogfind will load it for you

Ill have to give that a try

http://frogfind.com/read.php?a=

So just type www.... or http://www.....

So like http://frogfind.com/read.php?a=www.google.com ?

It does seem that Frog Finder is one heck of a tool for us older CE 2.11 users.

Yeah so for example if you want to go to https://www.google.com/
You’d do http://frogfind.com/read.php?a=https://www.google.com/

So I think it’s like a proxy server style that
1-strips the https certificate so it’s just http
2-converts the content so it’s as close to plain text as possible

^ I gave this a try and for the sites i tried so far, none are working still. But im gonna keep trying with this idea of yours with all the sites ive tried so far. Like 68k news i have to try. Thanks very much for your help :-)

edit:

Tried it but 68k news wont load. But as i said above it will load if i go thru frog finder and click the 4th link down the list. Its for their science news. I can replace science with sports and it loads their sports news. But when i click the news links on 68k news, the pages either dont load or error out. So i can only really read the headlines. Popandpop.com is different, those links all load and i can fully read the articles. If i click on the simple 1st link of 68k.news/ thru frog finder irs a no go. (Even with the http://frogfind.com/read.php?a=) it doesnt load it. Its just weird. I can get into 68k news but just not thru the front door haha.
