Hi folks: apologies if the questions is too trivial. I am looking to get a Sylvania SYNET07526 7in. (2GB, ARM ARM9, 128MB) the comes with WinCE 6 (mostly for playing around), and wonder if it is instant-on like my Jornada 720 is.

Thanks much for any insight you can provide.

Cheers!

No, these are not instant-on sadly! I would generally recommend against getting any Sylvania type CE netbook with a Wondermedia CPU since they tend to die and stop working after a while. If you find a CE-based netbook like the Ubisurfer you should be fine though!
It's generally up to the creator of the device to decide if the device has instant-on capabilities or not, it's definitely possible in all CE versions, though the makers of those Sylvania-type device decided against that, probably for cost reasons

Thank you for clarifying this. I am glad I did not pull the trigger on the Sylvania then. For me, instant-on is paramount.

I'll look for other devices that can do this.

Thanks again!

I have a CE 6 device with instant-on: the DT Research WebDT430:

https://www.hpcfactor.com/hardware/devices/specification.asp?d=246

You have to set WiFi to be off during suspend, but once you do, it uses so little power during suspend that it can last for well over a week in suspend before running out of power. See this page for details:

The tiny Lanhui media player had instant-on too, but mine stopped booting a long time ago, and replacements are impossible to find on eBay these days.

Let's not confuse Windows Mobile 6 with Windows CE 6. The former is based on CE 5 (specifically 5.02).
