Hello: I am trying to get a wireless connection to my J728 running Devuan using a Linksys WPC11
(v3
) PC Card, as in this video:
My missing step is to have the firmware updated
(to 1.8, my current version is 1.4
).
Does anyone know the commands/scripts needed to make this upgrade? It appears it can be done from within Devuan itself.
Thanks in advance for any pointers!
Yes, did the firmware swap on a few WPC11 cards and MA401 cards... easiest way is to use the WinUpdate program as I recall on an older WindowsXP laptop with pcmcia slot... have to be careful... backup the files on your wifi card, then upgrade. the program somewhat protects you from bricking the wifi card but if you forget to add the 2nd file it can brick the card... happened to me before I figured things out. I gave directions on this forum somewhere... will see if I can find it. I sold one to ArchiMark for cost 2 years ago as I recall.
(ntware had a script fix of sorts, however there is a limit to the number of read/writes to the card's memory and it won't work beyond that number or so I predict.
)
Winupdate program works really well on both brands cards, is fast and simple, using corresponding specific firmware files from torch's post or Stephan's site link. Winupdate will tell you which firmware files work or which don't work. Easy Peezy. Here's something I just found... but I can provide better details:

Alternatively, send me your card and I can upgrade it ...or I can swap and send you one of my upgraded cards in return. PM to contact me...
Best regards,
Joval
