All I could find in the forums are commercial telnet programs.Is there a freeware telnet?

Try doing a Google on Telnet freeware, it might help you get the results you need or go to this link http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Telnet+Freeware

I use 24term myself, works great for what I use it for (playing the occasional MUD). Free, too.

I installed it, added dlls, but the menu is appearing at the bottom of the screenand the actual telnet window is hidden somewhere..

If you're running a MIPS or SH3 device, you could give this a try:

Pretty basic, quick-and-dirty terminal program, but it gets the job done. Supports serial or TCP/IP connections, although I've only ever used it on the Serial port.

FWIW, I too use 24Term, even wirelessly, and I think it's a fine program.
