They are in the compact framework download from MS. I've removed the 3 ppc specific files.
What devices are the remaining files intended for?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's never been a non-arm .net ce4 device. I've never heard of half these cpu types like a MIPS16.

Are these .net ce4 updates for machines that were designed but never produced?
Most importantly, do I need to archive them for any reason?

well i know of X86 ce.net devices. and i've seen a MIPS ce.net device on rothberger.net. SH3.. now that one's really interesting.

so you want to archive stuff. for the cab (or exe, anything) repository project?
your simpad won't need these files.

But what bizarre machine will land in my lap 3 years from now that needs one of these files? That's the real mystery

You have to think out of the box on this one.
With CE 4 you can go and buy platform builder for £3000, rack up from a whole range of CPU's from the common to the obscure and build yourself a device. The CF is not just for PDA devices, but could well be running on the last petrol pump you used to fill your car with - and that could just as easily have been using a SH3 processor.

Microsoft just covered the most common bases in their redist.

Oh, by the way. Your MFC-WCE-GLOBAL is out of date, I've updated it several times since then.

LOL, funny you mention petrol. It hit $1.26 / L here today, a record for us. ( $5.73 CDN /gal)
Hmm, should I be looking for and pointing my hpc at any IR sensor I find on a petrol pump?

TY, for the global update, soo little time, so many things.
