I know this might be old news, but I found this japanese site that has instructions for converting WMP 7.1 for PPC's into a player usuable on HPC's. Apparently this version works well with video and mms streams (which Betaplayer still can't do).

Has anyone tried this? Does it work on MIPS and ARM processors?

Here is the site:

I'd like to try it, but I need a translator to download.

I would expect it to work on MIPS processors since, unless I am mistaken, there were lots of MIPS PPCs at the time WMP 7 was released.

I tested it on my HP720 a years ago.
WMP 7.1 (CEPlayer) is the old pocketpc media player.I think there is a MIPS version too.
Only reproduces window media format.
It´s necessary install on windows folder.
It can stream but with the same problems as other videoplayers.
The Pocket Internet browser can´t open the majority of stream content.
To stream you need to open direct from url stream.
It dont solve nothing.
And the screenshot of this site is a html code opening directly WMP.You can reproduce video in a skinnable pocket internet explorer.

Nah, I'm strictly a CE 2 guy (except of course for my Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC). That's why the title got my attention (H/PC Pro = 2.11). I'm looking for any and every media player that may stream decent video on my CE 2 devices. (I have to admit I'm a bit of an antique collector, cuz I was really fascinated with CE when it first came out. Am I a geek or what?)

I've had WMP7 running on HPC2000. It wont work on Pro, Pocket PC ports will only work under CE3 or higher OS's.

Having access to web audio streams was great. The video worked, but just couldn't give an optimised frame rate on playback even with the most conservatively encoded WMV.
It makes a mess of your device and registry and the only true way to get it off again is to hard reset it out - you'll lose file associations and so on from other apps.

mhm.. don't you have CE 1 devices as well?

aren't you interested in hpc pro or hpc2000? or even ce.net. you could forget your PPC then

I looked at some CE 1 devices initially, but then got drawn to CE 2 with its multimedia capabilities (2.11) and closer resemblance to Windows 95/98. (I still run 98 on my desktop computer, which I just use for more mundane stuff.) But that's another subject entirely.
